Central Motor Company turns 50

Central motor co in East Quay has been a thriving family run business for 50 years.

Bill Chinn began the business in 1965 and in 1995 his son Steve took over following his dad’s retirement. After serving in the air force, Bill returned to Bridgewater and worked for Armoury Garage in Friarn street and then Westway Service Station in Taunton Road.

With all the skills and knowledge on how to run a successful garage now under his belt, Bill signed the deed for Central Motor co. He did so at 4pm on August 12th, 1965 ensuring he didn’t start this new endeavor on the 13th! Some things have certainly changed since the decade when England won the World Cup, Beatles dominated the charts and Neil Armstrong walked on the moon. A succession of neighbouring businesses has come and gone while the Central Motor garage has remained and grew in size.

But not everything has changed. Customers who used to pop in for MOTs in the ‘60s still return now and so do their children and their children’s children.

After 50-years Central Motor co is still a family run business that continues to provide great quality work and honest service. It is a place where customers can come in, see the mechanics at work and have a friendly chat, why not pop in and see for yourself.

Open Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 5:30 and Saturday from 8:30 until 12:30pm, the garage provides an extensive range of services including MOTs, car repairs, car sales, fuel, batteries, exhausts and parts.
